It's the last day in the Studio before Christmas. Our plastic tree at home is decorated, all be it from the waist up due to the cat, dog and baby stealing all of the lower decorations and running away and hiding them. There isn't a turkey in sight and Christmas day is going to be 36 Degrees C. Apporaching our third Christmas in Australia, it still doesn't feel like Christmas, yet, probably because we aren't waiting for the lights to go out from the latest winter storm or for my father to fall asleep on the sofa in front of the TV after listening to the Queens Speech. We seem to keep having some kind of recurring financial instablility at Christmas, last year we had to move, and this year its a problem with the negative equity lawyers in the UK. For whatever reason, it all comes to a head in December. Maybe tomorrow, Christmas Eve, I will start to feel a little more like celebrating, this year has gone so fast, especailly this last season, when Spring forgot to be Spring!
The New Year always promisies to be a fresh start, a do over for another year. This time, for the first time in a decade, I have something beyond motherhood to focus on. My little studio. I have done 7 or 8 portraits since opening, that's a lot more than I would have acheived at home. Onwards and upwards, just need to get through the holidays and settle into a Summer routine with the girls at the studio. As for the orginal title of this post, I aim to give up my fear of the unknown and delve into the future with open arms. Without fear, then confidence and self belief will fill its shoes. I am doing it, so can you!!
May you have a Happy and Prosperous 2017,
...I find myself again pondering the future. It has been a good start to life in my new studio but there is always room for improvement. Google Adwords has been my friend, as has word of mouth, so keep spreading the word, everybody. There's a new artist in town and she is here to stay.
When doing a portrait, I have always saught to find that connection between pet and pet owner. It is a little more difficult when dealing with pets that have moved on from this earth or communicating with owners over email, that is why I love the back stories that people often go into about their pets. It really helps to learn a little about you and your animal friend. If this is a treasured family pet, or a horse that has won ten races in a row, then I want to know all about it. It's these personal accounts that help me add personality to your pets portrait. Its never just another dog or cat to me, its a prescious loved one.
I haven't been trained at art school, or spent years and years perfecting my craft, I just draw what I feel, and time and time again, I have been told I captured him or her beautifully and the eyes are just perfect, so somewhere in this energy field of mine there must be a spark of creativity, a personality, a connection with the pencil and paper that is all my own, and it gives me great pleasure to share that with others, as without the animals of this planet and the joy they bring, however temorary that may be, life was better because they were a part of it.
Treasured time together forever remembered, and forever part of the family, no matter how big or how small!
All the best for 2017!

I knew there would be quiet days, but I didn't bargin for it being like the desert, so close to Christmas, I thought I would be rushed off my feet! I guess that we are in a funny period at the moment. Nevermind, it gives me time to realine my thought processes and mental focus. Everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is a little unsure about what the future holds for them.
I learned a little secret a while ago, that the future will hold whatever we want it to, but its not quite that simple, it holds what you believe it will be. We all want to win the lotto, we all imagine what it would be like, but deep down, in the centre of your being, do we really believe that winning the lottery is believible, or more accurately, do we believe it is possible for us to win the lotto?
Here's the deal, I've always felt as though I have a Sixth Sense, sometime its flashes, or feelings or a knowing of some kind. In Japan it is more accepted that these types of experiences are real, and so when I experienced a vib, then my Japanese friends reacted immediately to it and it has saved my life or the lives of people around me on numerous occasions. So now I am going to take this deep belief I have, there is more at work in the Universe than what we can see and touch and apply it directly to the Lotto, specifically, tonights numbers on the OZ Lotto. We usually place 12 Rows on Tatts Lotto Saturday, a machine does the picking for us, our winnings thus far total 23 Dollars! Lets see if believing I can choose the right numbers will make a difference, I believe I can, do you?
Watch this space!
Hi, my name is Chrystal Carter, I am a mother to three lovely girls. I emigrated with my husband to Australia in December 2014, and have been living the dream, ever since! We are settled in the Dandenong Ranges and I have recently set up my brand new home art studio , in the heart of the hills, Tecoma. Here, I can follow my life long dream of being an artist drawing another of my greatest passions, animals, in particular, peoples beloved pets. I have always been fascinated by animals, nature and wildlife and where better to pursue my passions than here in Australia, and it certainly hasn't disappointed me! Follow me as a take on this new venture and brave new world, together with my wonderful family, and not forgetting my furry companions, Vin the Cat and Juno the Dog!
